The Biodiversity Finance Innovation Alliance (BioFIA) exists to rewire the flow of
capital for planetary regeneration. We design and prototype next-generation
financial instruments that recognize ecosystems as living infrastructure, embed
ecological intelligence into markets, and shift power to those who protect nature. By
converging finance, technology, and governance innovation, we aim to make
biodiversity the backbone of a thriving, just, and post-carbon economy.
Our Work
Our flagship initiative:
The Standing Forest Token (SFT) Project transforms verified tropical forests into a new class of nature-backed digital assets. Each SFT represents one hectare of verified standing primary tropical forest, creating a scarce digital asset backed by the irreplaceable ecological value of the world's remaining primary tropical ecosystems.
The system incentivizes continuous monitoring by generating Annual Verification Tokens (AVTs), which bundle rigorously verified Carbon, Water, Community and Biodiversity Credits. This system enables a credit market where credits are tied to place and people, using innovative dMRV technologies to increase integrity and reduce costs to buyers while ensuring direct rewards to forest protectors.
Packaged as bundles of credits, AVTs are a one-stop-shop for ESG buyers interested in demonstrating real world conservation support.
Together, these tokens create transparent, blockchain-based incentives that make forests more valuable standing than cut down.
